Raeva and Shervin's 4-day multicultural wedding in Washington DC wasn't just a union of these two medical school sweethearts but truly a celebration joining two cultures, religions and families. The weeklong celebration included two ceremonies, a traditional Hindu ceremony and a Persian service, and an elegant reception, for almost 600 guests, at Union Station in Washington, DC.
The Indian wedding ceremony was held first at the bride's parents' home. We partnered with Sarah Khan Event Styling to design a colorful Mandap in an ombre of purple, mauve, blush, and ivory. Sarah's team hand strung each rose petal paired with a hanging crystal to provide a shimmering effect during the outdoor ceremony held at dusk.
The Persian ceremony took place on the Odyssey cruising along the Potomac River. The sofreh aghd included decorative pieces that were handmade by Shervin’s mother and family. Both of the multicultural wedding ceremonies incorporated personal details for each family and religion creating a union special and unique to Raeva and Shervin.
As a contrast to the colorful celebrations in days prior, we chose an all white color palette for the luxe black-tie reception at Union Station. The only pops of color on the tables were the wedding favors: hand-painted papier-mâchée trinket boxes, which were custom-made in Kashmir, Raeva’s home country. The evening included a meal of both Indian and Persian flavors through a partnership with Bombay Tandoor and Design Cuisine (and a few homemade specialties from the couple's families). However, the true showstoppers of the night were the 6-tiered wedding cake cascaded with red roses and a surprise (for both the guests and the couple) aerialist performance by We Cirque.
